About Us

Our aim is to awaken the Chennai ties to the major issues confronting our society, and make them vibrant citizens of this ancient civilized land. The Chennai friends forum is apolitical, and our existence since1998, shows our faith in performing this Knowledge ‘yagna’. We have been successfully conducting Hall meetings, by inviting knowledgeable speakers. These ‘chinthan’ meetings numbering more than 500, so far in the yesteryears were successful, because our trusted valued friends, attended, and helped us to grow, as an effective organization.

Our Launch – A Divine Touch

The thought of starting this forum of course had a divine touch. Some of our friends had been to Kailash, but had a providential escape while returning to honour their yatra, a hall meeting was arranged, and it was a success.  This made us to ponder, and this forum came into being having “DharmamPeruguthu, DharmamPeruguthu” as our chief motto. Late Shri. A. Ramasamy, an advocate and a thinker along with an avowed organizer Shri.R.Ramamoorthy, the present General Secretary and a dedicated nationalist Shri.T.V.Lakshmi Narayan, the president and a Journalist Shri.M.R.Ramalingam, the vice president planned and made a charter, and with the divine blessings this forum was started on an optimistic note. We cannot forget the help of Late Dr .K. Venkatasubramaniam, erstwhile planning commission member, who appreciated our efforts, and gladly accepted to inaugurate this Forum. From that start, our journey has been continuous.

Sri V Balasubramanian, a Sr. Advocate is our President and Sri Shridhara Rajaram is assisting the General Secretary.   Sri R Manickavasagam is taking care of Accounts and Finance.

Our Friends

We have a list of thousand good friends and their participation in our Mylapore and Madipakkam chapters made us to grow with success. The Madipakkam chapter is under the valuable guidance of Shri. M. Masilamani, a social activist with many laurels and our Shri. B. Srikumar and Shri. S V Chari along with friends running it with aplomb. Our Mylapore chapter is working under Ms. Kanthamani & Others.

Annual Functions

So far our anniversaries are concerned; our functions have been a success continuously.  As the Republic day shows freedom, we do the function at Mylapore where our veteran freedom fighters lived and shown us the path. Also on Independence Day, we conduct a function at Madipakkam. As it is the emerging place of intellectuals, Of course, we have had the opportunity of having among us a galaxy of great people of different hue as chief guests who made us   proud in this venture. Shri  N  Vittal, former CVC, Justice Karpakavinayagam. Shri B.S. Raghavan,  Kamban adi p podi  S. Palaniappan,  Prof. Gnanasambandam , Smt. Manjula Ramesh,  Auditor M.R.Venkatesh and  Dr. Sumant C Raman, are a few who have been our Chief Guests. The list is long and we salute them now. As they have attended and their valued speeches made us to proclaim that we also do service to the society.
